Spiritual Intelligence: The Truth, The Pain, And the Lies

“In order to be effective truth must penetrate like an arrow — and that is likely to hurt.” ~ Wei Wu Wei

Good morning friends. With this as backdrop, let us now consider the scriptures below:

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

Some heated arguments transpired as it drew closer to Jesus’ death. Most stemmed from the apparent divide among his audience; there were those who believed, those who were unsure, and those who disbelieved his ministry. To give you an idea of the nature of these tussles, at one point a group of leaders walked up to Him and asked, “Tell us, by what authority do you do these things?”, for many took offence at His demonstration of authority, wisdom and power.

The truth pierced through their evil hearts, and like in the case of Stephen when they had to close their ears to what he was saying before he was dragged and stoned to death; they could not bear the voice of Jesus any longer. Paul explains it this way:

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Dear friends, like today their evil hearts found the truth unbearable, It exposed them for who they were inspite of their best efforts to fit in. They could not allow the truth to penetrate like an arrow, they could not bear the pain. The pain of change, the pain of transformation, the birth pangs of eternal life.

Spiritual Intelligence: Propaganda

Did God say?

These days propaganda can be defined as; information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view.

In the art of warfare, as well as the physical battle by; land, sea and air, there is also the battle for the hearts and minds. These mental and intellectual battles are sometimes the fiercest, with the sole aim to unsettle the combatants. An unsettled camp is a demoralised camp, a demoralised camp hardly win battles.

In spiritual warfare the enemy uses propaganda to unsettle the minds of the believer in the hope that they drop their armour and give up the fight for destiny. He comes through doubt – did God say? Doubt breeds unbelief, unbelief leads to poor choices, poor choices leads to fear. And a fearful disciple is a weak disciple – for the righteous is as bold as a lion! Bold to live a life of faith, bold to stand up for what they believe, bold to speak the truth!

With this in mind, Paul wrote to friends in Corinth;

The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.

Like Lots wife who sadly yielded to the temptation to look back after clear instructions by the Angel not to do so, many have been unsettled by the trickery and deception of our adversary the devil. And the pressure mounts, he’s out to snatch one more through his propaganda.

But in true rugged style I declare that the battle lines are drawn – No Retreat, No Surrender!

This couple obliged my offer to have their photo taken yesterday. I love their bold and stylish persona. God bless them!

Spiritual Intelligence: Can You Meet Me Halfway?

I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief…

The cry of a desperate father seeking divine intervention to deliver his beloved son from pain and suffering.

The length we will go to see a loved one delivered from pain and suffering is beyond literary explanation. This human instinct is one of the keys to our survival through the ages. Our ability to nurture, protect, provide and pass-on knowledge and skills to our off springs, is supreme in comparison to other life forms on planet Earth. In fact The Rabbi used this innate ability as an allegory while explaining God’s commitment to answering our prayers. In His words;

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Back to the thought at hand; I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief, we see an oxymoron. Is it possible to believe and still find ourselves in a state of unbelief? Ofcourse yes, hence this account presented to us in the Holy Writ.

All we need friends is that glimmer of faith to catalyse a change or breakthrough. It is called a Mustard Seed faith – and once it hits the soil of our hearts, The Lord in His infinite mercy meets us halfway.

So, Can You Meet Him Halfway?
