June Series 2015: the church and the media

The Media is oftentimes described as the Fourth Estate.

Almost like the invisible hand in economics, the Fourth Estate can be defined as a societal or political force or institution whose influence is not consistently or officially recognised.

In the UK alone, newspapers media have been the subject of government inquiries, police investigations, legal cases, and ethical debates; most notably the recent phone-hacking scandal (the subject of the Levinson Inquiry).

So, join us this Sunday for the final segment of this year’s June Series.

During the course of my lecture I will be exploring the media’s influence over faith, culture and politics, and its enormous potential in our mission to reach the lost, and make disciples.

This Sunday @ Healingsprings fellowship!

Prisoner of Conscience.

Last week we opened up with Yusuf Mohamed Ismail, a Somali politician, and Ambassador to the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva.

A Muslim who used his office to fight tirelessly for justice for ‘prisoners of conscience’; some of them Christians suffering persecution in Africa.

In this lecture I examined his life using Paul’s writing as recorded in (Romans 2:14-16), explaining the importance of doing Christianity, as to talking Christianity.
This Sunday, we take another case study of a doer. This time a Roman officer by the name Cornelius.

So, join us tomorrow for: Prisoner of Conscience.

This lecture takes us into the heart of God for humanity, through the effective working of His outpost on earth, the Church.

Spiritual Intelligence: Open Doors

I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

Good morning friends. John wrote to the leadership of the key churches in existence in his era while he was in solitary confinement on the Isle of Patmos, exhorting them to be faithful to Him who called them out of natures darkness into His marvellous light. He wrote to them through spiritual intelligence with a view to prune and cut-off their branches; thereby, enabling them to grow and bear much fruits.

These churches were made up of pockets of believers mostly meeting homes, sharing the gospel and breaking bread together. They were under immense pressure from: the authorities, who were out to extinguish the flames of their new found faith; false teachers who were victims of the devil’s deception; popular culture; and their customs and tradition. This cocktail of obstacles were there to stifle their growth, and ultimately cause death.

With this in mind, the words of our opening verses begins to make more sense… The faithfulness of the audience in question was the catalyst for the Open Door set before them by the almighty Himself. In the words of Jesus:

He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

Dear friends, as we draw close to the feast of Pentecost or Whitsunday (June 8th), The Lord drew to light the following verses to inspire prayers for Open Doors upon His church. These doors are for the corporate and individual advancement of His kingdom. Simultaneously, doors opened by the devil will start to get shut even as we see the rays of light from the doors of The Lord. These verses are excerpt from Paul’s letter to his friends in Corinth:

But I will tarry in Ephesus until Pentecost. For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.

So, as we tarry into Pentecost, we will begin to witness a paradigm shift in the church. The veil of lies, fear, deceit and deception will be lifted off His church, and we will go on to posses our inheritance. Just as Joshua and Caleb brought good news from Jericho amidst fear from the other members of the team of spies, we ask in line with your word as recorded by the psalmist:

Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.

Glory to God! Amen.
