The Words of Our Elders: T D Jakes

In order to make this journey–you have to make it without baggage. You can’t carry loads of bags with weight on you in order to be free and Jesus gives you an invitation to come unto him. Now you have to come to him–you will not get rest from anybody else. If you go to anybody else your going to find more work.

~ T D Jakes

The words of our elders, are words of wisdom.

Spiritual Intelligence: From Inertia, To Rest

Inertia can be defined as the resistance of any physical object to any change in its state of motion, including changes to its speed and direction. In other words, it is the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at constant linear velocity.

With this in mind let us consider this passage:

The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”

Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”

Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

What an amazing account of a supernatural encounter?

Good morning friends. Evidently, the situations and circumstances that life presents to us, conjures major opportunities for our spiritual growth and development. They are moments in time to move us from a state of inertia, to a state of rest. However, these attainments remain illusions except we allow God room to step in.

Peter and his friends experienced a turn around when they accepted Jesus’ request to use their boat as a platform for preaching one evening. After toiling for hours to no avail, they heeded His command, and they cast their nets into the deep. Suddenly they encountered a net bursting catch, so big that they had to call for backup from other fishermen! With this thought in mind, Paul wrote to his friends in Rome:

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

So, back to our opening verses; in complete trust in Jesus the nobleman went his way as instructed and that same hour his son regained full strength. He refused the common sense approach, for a Spirit led approach. He starved his doubts, thereby feeding his faith. He left it with Jesus, and he came into God’s rest. A nobleman in the true sense of nobility!

Let us pray:
Father we commit our lives into your holy hands today; give us the faith and courage we need to bring your kingdom to earth, and let your will unfold in our lives. Amen.

Spiritual Intelligence: Its A Come As You Are Party!

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Good morning friends. The walk of faith is a come as you are party. The invitation is extended to all, regardless of race or socio-economic status.

The body is the outer dressing of our unseen but eternal spirit. It can be likened to a costume, so the real you is actually your spirit, in the same way our profession is what we do, but not necessarily who we are. With this in mind, while Jesus was manifested as The Son of God, people came to see Him dressed-up in all manner of costumes. One came to see Him dressed-up as a teacher, one as a leper, one as a prostitute, one as a tax collector, one as an adulterer, one as a ruler, one as a dead man, one as a wealthy business, one as a blind man, one as a cancer sufferer, one as a Roman Governor… Different costumes, but mostly similar issues, similar to those we face today. They all had an audience with Him, and in typical style, He made a lasting impression.

So back to my opening verses. Friends He still calls today, it’s an open invitation. Its not a fancy dress, but a come as you are party, so, come with your pain, come with your shame, come with your gains, come with your losses. Come with sicknesses, diseases, addictions – just come as you are, and God will give you lasting peace!

Come now, come today. Tomorrow might be too late for you.
