Good morning dear friends. The title of today’s thought is coined from the song by The Temptations, “Don’t Look Back”. I don’t know about you, but it paints a very interesting picture in my mind; a group called The Temptations, singing a song entitled Don’t Look Back What an oxymoron? Hey, hands-up, and no offences to fans of The Temptation by the way – (chortle!).
Anyway, the song has been covered over the years by artists like; Al Green, Phil Collins, Bobby Womack, The Persuasions, and Teena Marie. My first bite of the cherry was the 1978 reggae version by Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger (You Gotta Walk And) Don’t Look Back”. And my favourite line;
Places behind you, there to remind you
Is a poignant reminder of our pilgrimage here on earth, the challenges we face along the way, the intensity as we press towards the finish line. As we endure, contend, persevere, struggle, fight… Keeping our focus on The Kingdom as we walk by faith, and not by sight.
In words of encouragement from Paul to friends in Corinth;
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
The pain of parting and separation with our past, becomes our gains and monuments of victory as we do battle with present and future challenges. Friends, we press forward like the woman with the issue of blood through the crowd, to touch the hem of The Rabbi’s garment, so that we can achieve our glorious change. And with every inch, not looking back.
Just keep on walking.
