Rock Or Sand…
Amidst the recent flooding and the battle of the Wellies between politicians for the hearts and minds of those affected, I’m reminded of one of The Rabbi’s parables. However before we delve in further, permit to explain what parables are. Parables can be defined as a simple story used to illustrate moral or spiritual lessons.
So in His effort to help us activate our moral and spiritual Flood Defence System; with the innate capacity to withstand life’s extreme weather conditions, He used this beautiful allegory:
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
Friends as we live life, challenges are bound to come our way, its only a matter of when – and not if. So as we draw close to the season of Lent, we have a brilliant opportunity for self-assessment, spring cleaning and rebuilding.
In one of Paul’s letters to his friends in Corinth, he used these words to emphasise this truth;
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
