What’s in your hands?
And I’m not talking about a mobile devices this morning (chortle!).
When man sinned in the garden of Eden, one of the curses was;
By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.
With that text in mind, labour becomes integral to the fulfilment of our purpose and destiny here on earth. It affords us the opportunity to contribute to humanity, and it helps provide human interaction which is vital for our spiritual, emotional and physical well-being. Its also a conduit for prosperity.
Before the industrial revolution labour was mostly agro-based. Therefore the hands were the main instrument of labour; it denotes trade, skills, craft, talent and ability. It was used for planting, harvesting, weaving, rearing, shearing, smithing…
In biblical times; Moses had a staff because he was a shepherd, Elisha had a plough because he was a farmer, David a staff because he was a shepherd, and Peter fishing nets – because he was a fisherman.
Most importantly, The Holy Writ bears record that Yahweh will bless the work of our hands. So friends on the second working day of a brand new week, I leave you with a little inspiration from one of King Solomon’s Real Life Observation project on this subject;
Whatever your hands finds to do, do with all your heart.
