Spiritual Intelligence: And I, If I

Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake. Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” This He said, signifying by what death He would die.

Good morning friends. Jesus made this statement in a bid to explain His death, and the gift of the Holy Spirit; freely available to all who believe. Here the word draw denotes a process that ultimately leads to a divine connection or encounter. These connections or encounters affords us with unique opportunities to have an audience with God, with a view to reason with him and review our lives.

Jacob had this encounter when he turned to God in desperation, when he heard that his twin brother Esau (the one he cheated of his birthright) was chasing hard after him. In fear for his life and his family’s, he turned to God with all his heart. He wrestled with an angel through the night, leading to a change in his destiny. Something significant happened that night, similar to Esther’s appearing before the king, or David confronting Goliath. In the words of Esau:

It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.’

At a crucial time Jacob had chosen wisely. His prayers had provoked God’s intervention, his faith was strengthened, his life transformed – he had been drawn into a more meaningful relationship with God.

Today, we have the some opportunity dear friends. The choice is ours, but consequences are out of our control.

Spiritual Intelligence: Don’t Wanna Be A Jesus Freak, But I Can’t Help Myself!

You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

This is it guys! Here it is – right there, the mystery of predestination. Jesus made this statement to his beloved friends, I guess as a gesture of reassurance. These ordinary, regular, everyday people like you and I; suddenly hijacked from their earthly vocation and lifestyle for a greater calling. The didn’t feel worthy, didn’t feel qualified, didn’t feel deserving of this privilege position. It’s like being called upon to play for Athletico Madrid! You are there in the dressing room thinking, my goodness; Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Deborah, Esther, David, Samuel, Daniel… Then you look at the bench, the reserve team, the coaching staff, the management, the operations team, the fans – you feel like a fraud; you want to runaway. Then suddenly, a tap on your shoulder; you turnaround and it’s that firebrand himself – Paul of Tarsus, and he says:

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

He explains to you how he felt so unworthy after all he had done to stop the good news; then each player with similar story but varying intensity, then the staff, then the fans…

Wow! You say to yourself – I’m in good company. Now you can see how I caught ADHD. These days dear friends; I can’t sit still, can’t sit down, can’t keep quiet. I just find myself seeking people’s attention so I can tell of the goodness of Jesus. Don’t wanna be a Jesus freak, but I can’t help myself!!!
