The Words of Our Elders: Chuck Swindoll

If you’re running a 26-mile marathon, remember that every mile is run one step at a time. If you are writing a book, do it one page at a time. If you’re trying to master a new language, try it one word at a time. There are 365 days in the average year. Divide any project by 365 and you’ll find that no job is all that intimidating. ~ Chuck Swindoll

The words of our elders, are words of wisdom.

This Sunday at Healingsprings fellowship | Part 2: Overview of Critical Journey

Critical Journey is the product of a beautiful piece of work by Janet Hagberg and Robert Guelich. It is an attempt to articulate the key stages in the life of faith.

Last week I presented an overview of the topic, then went on to run a test of the hypothesis on none other than the father of faith himself; Abraham. We explored his: recognition of God (stage 1); discipleship (stage 2); and productive life (stage 3).

This Sunday we will delve deeper into Stage 3, progress onto: his journey inward (stage 4); the wall; his journey outward (stage 5); and his life of love (stage 6).

Once this is achieved we will then apply it to our lives through a staged process. To this end The Critical Journey will run as a seven part series, over seven Sundays. We aim to explore, evaluate, challenge, reflect, learn; and draw strength from each other’s experiences as we journey through life.

So why not drop-by for a life-changing experience? This 90 mins might end up being a catalyst for some awesome things.

Our Big Sunday Celebration can be best described as a community Christian festival. So in the spirit of thanksgiving, together we: sing, pray, give, celebrate life, discuss current affairs, present thoughts from Biblical themes, and encourage one another; like one big family!

Community Bible Experience: New Testament, The Book of James

After an awesome time studying the richness, depth and breadth of The Book of Hebrews, we move on to The Book of James. Like Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, this wisdom book has a lot of insight and guidance to offer any willing scholar and disciple.

So this Friday we immerse ourselves into pages 311-318 of The Books of the Bible, New Testament, by Biblica!>/h2>

Community Bible Experience operates like a Reading Club…

Participants agree a weekly reading plan, then every Friday we meet in a relaxed fashion for an hour to discuss the following simple questions:

  • What’s something you noticed for the first time?
  • What questions did you have?
  • Was there anything that bothered you?
  • What did you learn about loving God?
  • What did you learn about loving others?

Afterwards, we enjoy light refreshments while we catchup, pray, challenge, and encourage each other.

We recommend a copy of The Books of The Bible by Biblica because of it’s contemporary design and translation, and we set ourselves a weekly target to read eleven pages.

  • (7:00 – 8:00)pm on Fridays
  • 52 Arcadian Avenue, Bexley, Kent DA5 1JW

If you need help with setting one up in your home, community space, church or perhaps offices; please get in touch!

The Words of Our Elders: Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981)

It is not a true Gospel that gives us the impression that the Christian life is easy, and that there are no problems to be faced. That is not the New Testament teaching. The New Testament is most alarming at first, indeed terrifying, as it shows us the problems by which we are confronted. But follow it-go on! It does not stop halfway, it goes on to this addition, this second half; and here it shows us the way in which, though that is the truth concerning the battle, we can be enabled to wage it, and not only to wage it, but to triumph in it. It shows us that we are meant to be “more than conquerors.”

~ Martyn Lloyd-Jones

The Words Of Our Elders: Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945)

“It is the nature, and the advantage of strong people that they can bring out the crucial questions and form a clear opinion about them. The weak always have to decide between alternatives that are not their own.”
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Spiritual Intelligence: Here I Stand

Its easier to blend in, but better to stand out…

Friends it takes; vision, courage, discipline, and self belief, to make and leave our footprints on the sands of time.

A life void of these virtues, is a life of mediocrity. We need to be carriers of that inner fortitude that compels one to stand up against the giants of life, even when our natural senses says stop, or in most cases – run! Virtues that takes us from being mere consumers, to being; catalysts, makers, leaders, influencers, contributors…

In the words of the elder statesman – king Solomon,

Better to be criticised by a wise man than praised by a fool.

So my dear friends the choice is yours; blend in, or stand out. As for me, Here I stand .
