Spiritual Intelligence: Parables And Nature

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”

From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”

But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Good morning friends. As well as parables, Jesus used a lot of examples from nature in explaining and demonstrating spiritual truths to His audience. This made His teaching simple and easily accessible to all regardless of their academic or intellectual capacity. His delivery was oratorical, and He possessed the ability to paint mental pictures in their hearts and minds. For this morning’s thought let’s home in on His use of nature.

Some of the best technological and scientific discoveries have been ones that were modelled after nature. With this in mind, allow me to introduce the term Biomimetics or biomimicry. In a nutshell, this concept can be defined as the imitation of the models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems. With huge investments in areas like nanobiometrics, science believes the future is simple, smarter and organic!

So, back to my opening verses. Jesus likened his words to Spirit and life, then He went on to explain that no one comes to Him except the Father (God) grants them access. Applying the principle of nature, this statements is best understood through the lenses of human conception. The word is released by Jesus, like the sperm it swims through the currents by the Holy Spirit into our spirit, then it comes alive in the spirit of those that the father gives access through His foreknowledge. As powerful as this is, it’s still only the start of the process. It still needs to be carried within, protected and nourished before delivery. After delivery, the word (this might be in the shape of a ministry, concept, business idea, spiritual change etc) still needs to be cared for, provided for and protected until it reaches the stage of maturity and fruitfulness.

Friends our spirits are carriers of the eggs of life, these eggs can either be fertilised by God or Satan depending on who we attract the most. This however depends on the state of our hearts; which is largely dependent on how we use our freewill in our day to day choices, for want of a better description – our lifestyle.

Hence Jesus told the Pharisees:

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.

Spiritual Intelligence: Divine Connection

Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”

Good morning friends. At the point of this insightfully spiritual lecture, Jesus was close to His death. A death He freely accepted in fulfilment with; prophecies, God’s will for His life, and God’s plan for the redemption of humanity. So, in the spirit of preparation, He was executing His exit strategy. A central part of this strategy was the delivery of key lectures in open forums where questions could be asked by His audience.

With that in mind, this lecture presents Him as the sent one. The one sent to be a model for humanity. The one sent to reflect God’s power and love on earth as the light of this world, the one sent to be the saviour of the world. At a time when heaven kissed earth, both realms were in harmony, and the church was conceived – glory hallelujah! He was sent to reconnect us with the father.

Let us pray:

Father, we bring our lives before you today. We realise that without your spirit, we are powerless.

We acknowledge that its your spirit that works in us, both to will and to do of your good pleasure. So we pray that your Holy Spirit will start a work in us today.

We need you Holy Spirit, our souls long for you as the deer pants for water. Amen.
