This Sunday at Healingsprings fellowship: Critical Journey | The life of Discipleship

Last week I introduced and completed the first stage of the six stages: Recognition of God. During the lecture, we explored Isaiah’s epiphany and the story of the leper in the first chapter of Mark’s gospel; as a mirror into our lives and experiences as followers of Christ.

This week we press on to the next stage: the life of discipleship. To this end Jesus’ words, inviting his new friends to a life of discipline (which is where the word discipleship evolved from), comes alive in my spirit:

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people. (Matthew 4:19 NRSV).

Follow me, and I will make you… Therefore, in following the transformation process is ignited! In fact Paul alluded to this when he wrote to friends in Corinth:

And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18 NRSV)

To this end, we will be engaging our minds with characteristics like: meaning from belonging; answers found in a leader/cause/ belief system; sense of righteousness; and security in our faith.

Critical Journey is the product of a beautiful piece of work by Janet Hagberg and Robert Guelich. It is an attempt to articulate the key stages in the life of faith. Each week we will examine one of the six stages: exploring, evaluating, challenging, reflecting, learning; drawing strength from the bible, and each other’s experiences. The series will culminate with a celebratory service.

So why not drop-by for a life-changing experience? This 90 mins might end up being a catalyst for some awesome things.

(6:00 – 7:30)pm

Our Big Sunday Celebration can be best described as a community Christian festival. So in the spirit of thanksgiving, together we: sing, pray, give, celebrate life, discuss current affairs, present thoughts from Biblical themes, and encourage one another; like one big family!

The Words of Our Elders: Dr Myles Munroe (1954-2014)

People generally fall into one of three groups: the few who make things happen, the many who watch things happen, and the overwhelming majority who have no notion of what happens. Every person is either a creator of fact or a creature of circumstance. He either puts color into his environment, or, like a chameleon, takes color from his environment.

~ Dr Myles Munroe

The words of our elders, are words of wisdom.

Spiritual Intelligence: Doors And Adversaries

But I will tarry in Ephesus until Pentecost. For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.

Good morning friends. This statement from Paul to friends in Corinth provides a microcosm of the war for the expansion of Gods kingdom. At every stage of the process we see the resistance against the preachers and potential converts.

With the converts: the opportunity to hear the gospel, the grace for it to find root in their the hearts, the pains of discipleship, the gains of multiplication, and finally our transition from mortality to immortality eternity.

With the preacher: the preaching of the gospel, the discipleship, mentoring and coaching through sound doctrine, prophetic and apostolic covering. These stages denotes the doors that Paul described in our opening verses.

For instance, after the church plant in Thessalonica, he was detained with Silas, and were both deported. Knowing the potential adversities that these vulnerable young converts were likely to face in the absence of discipleship and sound doctrine, he prayed earnestly for God’s keeping grace to protect them from falling away. See excerpts from his letter:

For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God, night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith?

This principle applies to any venture aimed at lifting humanity from despair, any project aimed at lifting the human spirit from poverty, lack and bankruptcy. So, the battle for the kingdom rages on dear friends, and we are called to fight the resistance and take it by force. Therefore I commend you today and always into His holy hands with words from Jude:

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
