The Words Of Our Elders: Samuel Ajayi Crowther (1807-1891)

After many years’ experience, I have found that the Bible, the sword of the Spirit, must fight its own battle, by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

~ Samuel Ajayi Crowther

The words of our elders, are words of wisdom.

Spiritual Intelligence: Mind Your Own Business

God, our God, will take care of the hidden things but the revealed things are our business. It’s up to us and our children to attend to all the terms in this Revelation.

Some very wise words here from the first known abolitionist, political activist, reformer and prophet – Moses.

Good morning friends. While speaking at our Sunday fellowship a couple of weeks ago, I explained that we will all have to give an account for our lives. It’s not a case where we get recommendations or references from people of good standing, or perhaps a brilliant attorney. No favours, no family ties, no tribal connection or network either – all on our own.

With that thought in mind, it is of great importance that we take personal responsibility for the issues of our lives. That we set our priorities in order, take the reins, and pursue the right goals. In the words of the psalmist:

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

The revealed word is accessible to all through print and electronic media these days. We can access the bible in various translations and versions via the internet for free. We have access to commentaries and exergisis from writers, and If you are reading this right now, your steps have been ordered by God; please endeavour to share with friends and loved ones via social media.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin;

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.

Let us pray… Lord I pray for the power to break free from anything that impedes spiritual progress. That we use our time wisely, and concentrate our efforts in the right direction. I pray for the strength to attend to the terms of your revealed word – amen!

Spiritual Intelligence: The Right Perspective On Things

If a commission by an earthly king is considered a honour, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice? ~ David Livingston

David Livingston was a pioneer in his era. He was a missionary, explorer and abolitionist. I was glad when I ran into this quote from him. I hope you will agree that it gives us an idea of the motivation behind his exploits. It is clear that this man had experienced a personal encounter with God, an encounter that lifted the scriptures from the leaves of the bible, making it a reality in his own life. In a nutshell, he was completely immersed in his calling. We see this life transforming effect expounded in a statement in one of Daniel’s revelations;

But they that do know their God, shall be strong and do exploits

So, my friends, motivation comes from revelation, and revelations inspire revolutions – this God-man partnership is the main driver for meaning change here on earth. With that in mind, let’s align our perspective and renew our vision. It’s a honour to walk with God, and not a sacrifice.

I leave you with these words from the prophet Isaiah;

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
They shall never hold their peace day or night.
You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,
And give Him no rest till He establishes
And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
