Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
The word Behold means to see or observe (someone or something, especially of remarkable or impressive nature). With this in mind we understand that we have to be watchful and observant at all times for the still small voice of Jesus Christ. This action is not a one-off exercise; but one of a continuous nature. It’s the gesture of a friend or relative, it’s an experience to look forward to; one to be enjoyed. Good morning friends. It’s interesting to know that we mean so much to God, and that He enjoys our company. In the words of the Psalmist:
What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen— even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas.
In our opening verses, we are presented with a people who were in love with themselves. A people who had been distracted, and blown completely off course with the pleasures and leisure of this present world. A people who’s vision had become blurred, a people who had become drunk with the wine of Babylon. In their drunkenness, they believe the lies of the devil; they believe they have it all. But, in-spite of this we see a loving God knocking at the door of their hearts, hoping to be received and invited to have dinner; reminiscent to what He did when He caught a glimpse of Zacchaeus perching on the branch of that famous sycamore tree. In demonstration of the depth of His love towards us, He made this statement:
You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
His love makes the journey to our hearts seem like a walk in the park… Just picture how you feel when you are at the door of a dear one. So, will you listen for the door? Will you let Him in? Will you take time to wash His traveling feet, recline at the table, and have dinner with Him?
