When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace. But when a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.
The Rabbi was fond of using natural examples to explain spiritual truths. His words also provided contextual answers or explanations to the challenges of the time. They were not just ordinary words, they were words backed with the power and authority of the creator – whom we popularly refer to as God!
For instance, he used my opening text in defence of His position after He was accused by His opponents of using diabolical means to heal and deliver people afflicted by the devil. In typical style, His response were spiritual and alive, so as well as addressing the context, He also provided His audience with eternal insights into the power dynamics in the spiritual realm.
Good morning friends. I submit to you that the unseen world controls the seen world. The unseen realm is far more advanced in technological and scientific terms, hence we use spiritual terms. The natural mind cannot make sense of it, so it is broadly referred to as a mystery. Before the arrival of The Rabbi, God’s foreknowledge made provision for angelic visitations whenever one was found that demonstrated faith. After His death, the Holy Spirit was sent to comfort, teach and guide all true followers.
So back to my opening text. Friends we need to be fortified with power in order to take-on and dispossess the devils operations here on earth. Knowing this, The Rabbi said to His disciples after His resurrection;
Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.
But tarry until… Fast forward to the book of acts and we see an account of the day of Pentecost, when power finally came upon the disciples. On that day the same Peter that denied Him thrice spoke with so much conviction that thousands were moved to repentance. The disciples that were once in hiding, now had the boldness to preach, teach, heal and deliver like The Rabbi did while with them.
We are the invading army, hence we advance the kingdom here on earth taking territories held by the devil. We are called to do the binding and dispossession. David not only killed Goliath, he also took his armoury and his sword!
