“The harvest is past, The summer is ended, And we are not saved!” For the hurt of the daughter of my people I am hurt. I am mourning;
Astonishment has taken hold of me. Is there no balm in Gilead,
Is there no physician there?
Why then is there no recovery
For the health of the daughter of my people?
Is there no balm in Gilead? A rhetorical question by Jeremiah as he ponders over the state of a nation that once knew God… Gilead was blessed with a tree that had a very unique compound with healing capabilities. For years, this very unique balm was sought after by the nations of the world for relief from all kinds of pain.
Good morning friends. I’ve come to realise that no man, people, denomination, nation etc., has a monopoly on God. In the words of the prophet Azariah;
The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
If this statement was an equation, God will be the Constant and humankind the Variable. His position does not change. He is not like humankind who waiver like the branches of a tree, but He is faithful in all seasons, situations and circumstances. A friend that sticks closer than a brother.
So, back to the thought at hand. We are posed with a situation where the healer now seeks healing, the lawgiver now seeks Justice, the delivered now seek deliverance – for the people of the almighty God were in captivity. They have been taken captive by the enemies of Jehovah – Lord have mercy!
This my friend explains the state of the church today. We have gone astray, we have departed from His precepts. We say we are rich, we say money answers all things; but we have missed the context of that scripture. As a result we are busy chasing money at the expense of our souls. We have neglected the weightier things, we have ended up spiritually poor and powerless. The Rabbi said, “You can’t serve God and money”, one has to give way for the other. The enemy has crept in unaware, infiltrated the system, rose up to the ranks of leadership, and like the Trojan horse sabotaging our efforts from within. He has sown tares among our wheat crop!
Wake up!
Breakup your fallow grounds. It is type to seek The Lord!
