Spiritual Intelligence: I Was Neither A Prophet, Nor The Son Of A Prophet

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent a message to Jeroboam king of Israel: ‘Amos is raising a conspiracy against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words. For this is what Amos is saying:

‘“Jeroboam will die by the sword,
and Israel will surely go into exile,
away from their native land.”’
Then Amaziah said to Amos, ‘Get out, you seer! Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there. Don’t prophesy any more at Bethel, because this is the king’s sanctuary and the temple of the kingdom.’

Amos answered Amaziah, ‘I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees. But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, “Go, prophesy to my people Israel.”

Good morning friends. I submit to you this morning that these posts are not my words, but the words of God. Also, that this is not a hobby, but a burden of The Lord. Its God’s heart cry, its God’s heart beat for humanity. I say, Lord for how long? He says; “Son, just write and post”. So I’ve found strength in the words of prophet Isaiah;

The Lord God gives me
the right words
to encourage the weary.
Each morning he awakens me
eager to learn his teaching

When asked for last words in closing his interview with TV host Charlie Rose, Larry Page (Google), made the following statement;

“Most businesses fail because they miss the future”.

He cited his experience while working on the Android operating system, which at the time was only a pet project (well, so he thought), he said; “I felt guilty for wasting time”, … “That was stupid, it was the future”.

Back to our opening scripture, there would have been times when Amos thought, “this is stupid, what am I doing in Bethel?” Times when, like Peter he felt like going back to the familiar, going back to fishing… But, like Simeon and Anna; he saw the future, embraced it, aligned himself, and prophesied accordingly.

Fast forward centuries later, John The Baptist stepped on the scene, prepared the people and ushered in the future. Then, Jesus Christ preached, taught, manifested the power of His kingdom, and left us the Holy Spirit. So as David was anointed king years before he finally ascended on the throne, so also the kingdom of God is already here through the power of the Holy Spirit.
