When, And Not If…
The season of Lent (the time of preparation for Easter Sunday) begins on a different date each year in the Christian Calendar. This year for instance, Lent 2014 begins on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2014.
Lent precedes the greatest Christian Festival – Easter. It starts on Ash Wednesday, crystallises with celebrations on Palm Sunday.
Its a time for reflection on the; life, suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour – Jesus Christ. It involves spiritual disciplines like; fasting, moderation, contemplation, abstinence, consecration… In one of the teachings of The Rabbi while He was here with us, He used the word When repeatedly while explaining the importance of prayer, fasting and giving – thereby highlighting the expectation that we ought to be engaged in these activities.
When you pray…., When you fast…, When you give…
Friends these are caveats. They add virtue to our walk, and are essential for building our spiritual stamina to confront and conquer challenges as we journey through life.
So lets start with this year’s Lent, using it as a platform for bigger and greater exploits!
